The Bellwether Revivals By Benjamin Wood

To be honest, this book started off a bit daunting... 420 pages daunting. Like most books I get, I found it at my local Goodwill. After being drawn in by the colorful book jacket, I read the back. Music, psychology, and healing were the themes it projected; all themes that I have a most definite interest in.

The book is based in England. While some of the phrases were a bit foreign to me, I was generally able to translate the British language into the English I'm more accustomed to. Tyre vs. Tire; Kurb vs. Curb. The few other words I missed were easily translated by my friends over at Google. The Bellwether Revivals tells the story of Eden Bellwether, music genius extraordinaire, through the eyes of Oscar Lowe. Oscar is a care assistant at a nursing home. While walking home one day, he happens to hear beautiful organ music playing. He goes into the church to listen, mesmerized by the notes and the emotional effect they have on him. Upon leaving, he meets Iris Bellwether, sister to Eden. The book tells of a complicated relationship between Iris and Oscar and the ever increasingly troubled Oscar meets Eden. Jane, Yin, and Marcus, friends of the Bellwether siblings, who must, at some point, decide for themselves if Eden is a genius, or a Narcissist with delusions of grandeur. Can Eden really heal people through the power of music?

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it as a book that makes you think, touches on emotion, and plays to fantasy.
